Alias: Patricia Highsmith, the Number One Mystery Writer: Tucked away in in a little French village not far from Fontainebleau to the south of Paris, in a house without number of television, living among her cats and flowers, is one of the best crime novelists of our time, since the death of Agatha Christie. Patricia Highsmith is now 57 years old, born in Forth Worth, Texas, she left the United States after the McCarthy era had put her name on the Communist black list and later settled in England before coming to France. Most people consider her books as psychological novels where her personalities suffer from emotional problems, often centered around her most famous hero, Tom Ripley, an imaginative figure she created from a hotel window on the Positano beach. Cutting herself off from the pleasantries of society, she devotes all her life to writing, retreated in a small stone house along a French canal where she manages to shut out the snooping world around her.
